BMW 3-Series Gets a Facelift

BMW Malaysia has finally given the 3-Series a much needed facelift. The F30 model has been updated beyond aesthetic measures, with new engines and two new variants – 318i and 330i – also part of the repackaging exercise for 2016.

Visual changes are subtle, with mildly redesigned lights, bumpers and wheels being the only main differences the trained eye can identify. The bigger surprise comes from the 1.5-litre three-cylinder engine powering the entry-level 318i. The engine, used to great effect in a host of MINI and smaller BMW models, makes its 3-Series debut accompanied by 136bhp and 220Nm, which is enough to get the 3-er moving from 0-100kph in under nine seconds.

The 320i and 330i models get BMW’s new two-litre four-cylinder engine which makes 184bhp and 290Nm for the 320i, and 252bhp and 350Nm for the 330i. The latter’s performance is particularly impressive. The century sprint is dispatched in only 5.8 seconds – 1.4 seconds quicker than the 320i – while fuel efficiency is maintained at a lowly 6.1L/100km. The 318i and 320i are slightly more efficient at 5.1 and 5.6L/100km.

All engines are mated to a familiar 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission which delivers power to the rear of the sedan which BMW claims to have a 50-50 weight distribution across the range.

Prices for the new BWM 3-Series are as follows:
BMW 318i Luxury Line RM208,800
BMW 320i Sport Line RM238,800
BMW 320i M Sport RM258,800
BMW 320d M Sport RM268,800
BMW 330i M Sport RM308,800

All prices are on-the-road, sans insurance but inclusive of BMW Malaysia’s latest five-year unlimited mileage warranty and free scheduled service programme. For more information, visit BMW Malaysia's official website.
